Drivers Alienware M17x R3 Bios

Hello Fellow Tech Gurus!I am having a huge headache after upgrading the ram memory of my m17x r3.First let me start by saying I have been experiencing issues with my current ram setup recently, and so i decided to replace the ram inside of my computer, thinking they had gone out on me. It originally came with x4 2gb memory sticks, and as I started to experience issue, I started to removed them, and I was down to 1 2gb stick. It seems to me ram slots 1 & 2 are not working properly as when I put ram memory into them I would get BSOD in 5-10 mins of computer usage after boot. So I am thinking the slots have gone out. I also tested each slot individually and still same effect. So I went on the try out slots 3 & 4 under the keyboard, which seems to work just fine when I use only 1 ram chip in one or the other.

But the problem occurs when I try and fill both ram slots in slots 3 & 4 under the keyboard with crucial 2x 8 gb of ram sticks, which total to 16gb total ram memory.BSOD and freezing occurs like crazy. But if I use just one of the ram sticks in either slot, no problem.I dunno if this is hardware or software. I am think that my motherboard is on its way out the door, but any suggestions you all have would be great. I have already clean installed win 7, and is currently running bios A10 (unlocked, I believe)I would also like to note that my motherboards internal vga is not detected, and just noticed this a few days ago upon trying to figure out the ram situation.other issues is my laptop battery is pretty much dead, and the only for my computer to cut on is if the AC adapter is connectedI would also like to know can 1x 16gb 1600 ram stick run in my computer? Hey guys,I have an Alienware m17x R3. I bought it as scrap. But currently working.

I have this issues with this device. I hope you guys can help me out with this.Issues:The device is charging when its turned off. And when its on (on) state, when i plug in the charger it turns off the light in the charger port.solutions that i have tried: changed the charger and battery, flashed the bios.change a capacitor near charging port.after all of the solutions i tried. I have found one thing to be suspicious about. The device charges normally even on (on) state and doesn't kill the light in the chargers port. If i dont install the driver of the GPU 680m Dell 2gb.can anyone help me with his matter? Okay here is what's going.

Just like the title says, I cant get the driver to install. I'm on Windows 10 x64 release 160906. The card works in 1920 x 1080 with the windows vga drivers. I've disabled driver signing, I'm in test mode. I've tried the nvidia driver versions, 365.19, 372.54, 372.70, 372.90. With modded inf's for each from laptopvideo2go.com They all start the install, but when it gets to the driver install, the screen goes black for about 30 seconds, then the computer just reboots. The drivers don't get installed.

I've seen a bunch of threads around about Windows 8, but nothing that seems to answer for windows 10. Is there something that I'm missing to get the drivers installed?Update, found this thread.I got the drivers installed following the directions, but after rebooting back into normal mode, the computer just reboots.

I see the windows logo, screen goes black, then after about 30 seconds, it just reboots. This was using the 372.90 and inf files from the thread.Alienware m17x r3 with Dell r9 m290x(HD8970m).

For anyone new coming to this thread, I have yet to get my 970M to work properly in my M17x R4 running Windows 7 64-bit, but these are all the steps I have tried so far.1. Downloaded and successfully installed version: M17xR4 05511028 9xxM 399.07 W7W8.zip Alienware (Dell), GPU, Nvidia driver version, supported OS. MSI Afterburner showed GPU1 (970M) activity, meaning the driver worked correctly.

However, I still felt I was lagging in games unnecessarily considering I have 22GB of RAM. Therefore, I wanted updated modded drivers because I thought that might fix the issue given that these drivers were more than 2 years old.3. Downloaded newest default 970M driver version from (417.35).4.

Edited nvdmi.inf file so driver would work on M17x R4 as per.5. Successfully ran setup.exe and downloaded the updated modded drivers. However, although recognised in BIOS and Device Manager as installed correctly, MSI Afterburner showed no GPU1 activity and I lagged worse in games. Therefore, I thought I might need to have an updated and/or unlocked BIOS set to start using PEG (PCI Express Graphics 970M) for it to work.6. Downloaded most recent default M17x R4 BIOS (A14) from.7.

Ran BIOS setup file and successfully updated BIOS from default A12 to default A14. However, still no GPU1 activity.8. Requested an unlocked A14 BIOS from (many thanks. Any help on this would be insanely appreciated.:/If you laptop can start, booting in Windows, but with black/blank display, then it means that you can reset the BIOS to default settings blindly.Try completely disable laptop with press and hold Power/Start button. Then:1.

P ress and hold F2 key2. Turn laptop on. ( still hold F2 key)3. Wait 5-7 sec, then release F2 key.3.

Press F9, then press Enter key.4. Press F10, then press Enter key.5. The laptop restarts and now all should be good. If you laptop can't start, and can't boot in Windows, then use this method:Pull out all RAM modules, enable laptop without all RAM modules.

Then disable laptop. Then temporarily insert only one different RAM module ( with another memory size or different manufacturer), and start laptop. After these steps bios should be reset to default settings. If you laptop can't start, and can't boot in Windows, then use this method:Pull out all RAM modules, enable laptop without all RAM modules. After these steps bios should be reset to default settings.Laptop only starts to black screen and beeping, so I assume this is the correct option, but tried the first option anyway. When you say, disable and enable laptop, do you mean turning the laptop off and on? Hello everyone,My Alienware m17xR4 has official A13 bios. After the update i noticed that my laptop has slowed down by A LOT.

Alienware M17x R3 Unknown Device

And then i noticed that once i load my cpu fully the clock speeds go to 2.2 Ghz. Right now all i can do is use software like Throttle stop to increase my cpu freaquency by increasing current limit (changing multipliers does nothing in bios) and that software is annoying because once the update is released you are forced to update and once you do all your settings are gone and you have to do everything from start. My question is if i were to install unlocked bios could i make such changes in the bios without having to rely on software? However, still no GPU1 activity.8. Requested an unlocked A14 BIOS from (many thanks. Hi All!The day has finally arrived: My 7970M has completely crashed and is not working anymore on my M17xR4 after 6 years of use:'(Still, I can boot windows when disabling the 7970M from the settings, therefore relying on the intel chipset. However, due to the stupid Windows 10 policy forcing the updates down your throat, any major update also tries to enable/update the 7970M GPU, which result in instant PC freeze everytime. Is there any modded Bios (most recent up-to-date version) that can allow me to completly switch to the intel chipset, hiding the 7970M to the OS?Thanks a lot! Hi all,I'm new to this forum and haven't really posted anything yet, other than on the welcome page. I'm about to start a new project I'm calling, 'Alien Resurrection'.

It began about a week ago when my neighbor dropped off his M17xR3 at my house and said, 'Make me a Clown Funnyman!' (I guess that was a reference to the movie, 'Wedding Crashers', when a guy asked a balloon artist to do the impossible.). Since that time I've been doing nothing but reading the forum. I've a TON of issues to work out with this thing!

For openers:1- The keyboard is trashed (If it's worth it, I would spring for a replacement)2- BIOS and Device Manager DOES see the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M, but I cannot establish any communication with it.(NVIDIA Control Panel exists in Windows Control Panel, but will not open.)3- Battery is 0% available (plugged in, not charging) ((.so using Insyde Flash within Windows environment is pretty much out of the question))4- It's at REV A08 and NOT-UEFI ready as far as I know. (I'm only going to bring it up to Rev once, then NO MORE BIOS upgrades, but need EXPERT advice on the best Rev to settle on.)It was non-functional when I received it, but I was able to get it running.

It was super super slow- almost unresponsive, but I was able to put BelArc Advisor on it to get a look at what I was dealing with. It had Windows 10 on it, (I'm pretty sure THAT was a BAD idea.).

Being that my neighbor and I had nothing to lose, I wiped it, by cleaning and re-partitioning the 800Gb drive, then did a clean install of Win 7 on it. I think that where I want to go with this M17xR3 is to upgrade the BIOS sufficient to do a clean UEFI reinstall of Windows 7, (if THAT is an unwise course of action, I would appreciate some input from more experienced techs - backed by strong arguments for doing what they suggest).I would like to chronicle the journey to document the experience for others to see. I'd like to break it down like this and fill in the rest of the outline later:I. Identify the unit and all the hardware within it, noting the limitations of said hardware.A. Diagnose everything, possibly doing some bench-marking for comparative purposes to similar systemsII.

Begin the actual resurrection process.A. Document all hardware, firmware, software changes made (In the preferred sequential order backed by strong arguments from more experienced users)1. Outline the procedures performed in an easily understood manner, (including embedded links to knowledge resources both within and without this forum)III. Put the resurrected Alien to the test and provide some final bench-markingA. Document the bench-marking process in an easily understood manner, (including embedded links to knowledge resources both within and without this forum)IV.

Prepare a summary of what was learned and where other hardware and software choices could, or should have been made.I'm in no real hurry, and it appears this forum isn't either. I don't have the $$ to spend right now, but once I'm back to work I'll have plenty. My neighbor certainly doesn't have the money, and there's a REALLY good chance he'll just gift the Alien to me when he finds out there's going to be some unavoidable expenses incurred.

I'm on day 2 here at T I and I have NO PROBLEM whatsoever biding my time and making the required posts to gain my promotion, so I say: Let the journey begin!I suggest a new thread to chronicle the experience might just be in order, but I will not presume to do so unless somebody important concurs. I'm going to settle in and be here for the duration of this project, so I hope I'll see some others around that take some interest in what I'm about to do.EXCELSIOR!TomEdited February 26 by Mr.

TomAdded Media. According to the thread titled: 'Alienware M17X R3 UEFI' My Idea of Going UEFI is going to be a little more involved than I thought.

I better start doing my homework. With any luck, I might be able to find the items I need to cobble together an Alien-Frankenstien at a reasonable price given that these things are on the order of 7-8 years old, or given the fact that I'm currently between jobs, give up on the UEFI thing altogether. Having never used a forum before, it seems this is completely the wrong venue for my (above) post, even though I likely will need a BIOS mod to attempt to solve my 'Plugged in, not charging' issue.Sorry about that. Will put all future posts in more apt locations! In this thread you can post your requests for Lenovo ThinkPad T440p / T440s / T540p.If someone wants upgrade Wi-Fi card and remove whitelist, or unlock hidden additional menus and settings in bios setup menu, then you can post your request in this thread.Important! For creating bios backup and to flash bios mod, you must use any SPI programmer (like CH341A programmer) and a SOIC8/SOP8 test clip!Just dump your Bios using any SPI programmer (like CH341A programmer) and a SOIC8/SOP8 test clip, then post it in this thread or upload it to any fileserver and send me the link.

As it got pretty difficult for me to keep track of all the mod requests I decided to make a separate thread for bios / vbios modification requests. I hope it will make it easier for me to fulfill as many requests as possible. If you want to request a mod make sure you read through the following guidelines / rules, posts that do not comply with them will be deleted without further notice.Rules:You need to have a minimum of five approved posts (or 'T I elite' status) in order to request a mod.Make sure I didn't already modify the corresponding bios / vbios. When posting a request you agree to flash and test the mod once it's done and post some feedback. (If you don't plan on using the mod then don't bother posting.)I only modify stock firmware.

I don't work on anything that has already been tampered with. For BIOS mods I need a link to an original BIOS update directly from the vendor (no mirror link) and most likely a dump of your BIOS (see instructions below).I only work on the latest BIOS versions unless there's a very specific reason for using an older one (in this case you need to specify so).In addition to this I need a dump of your BIOS as well as some additional information, read the 'BIOS backup' section below, provide all the specified files. For VBIOS mods I need a copy of your original vbios. (Only as attachment in a post here or per link to cloud storage such as dropbox, gdrive etc. Per PM, filehosters are not accepted). No custom GPU clock requests unless it is for some reason not possible to overclock the corresponding system / GPU per software. No Windows activation mods. Check MDL for this kind of request.I can't guarantee that I will be able to fulfill a request. While I will try to keep it fair and consider the order of the requests at least up to a certain degree I will generally work on what I want and feel up to. Popular requests might be treated with higher priority.BIOS backup:For Intel 7 series chipsets run the attached flashChk tool from DOS and post the created flashchk.bin file (as attachment). Also grab this tool, run the backup.bat and send me created file. You will need to run it as administrator. If it reports and issue with the PCIe driver you have a crappy AV software and need to disable it temporarily. If you don't use Windows let me know and I will provide a different tool. For systems using the 8 series chipsets run the attached flashChk tool from DOS and post the created flashchk.bin file (as attachment) and wait for further instructions.- Thread under construction, more information will be added -flashChk.zipFptw64(8series).zipFptDOS(8series).zip.

In this thread you can post your requests for Lenovo Y50-70, Lenovo Y70-70, Lenovo Z50-70, Lenovo Z70-70, Lenovo G50-70, Lenovo G70-70.If someone wants upgrade Wi-Fi card and remove whitelist, or unlock hidden additional menus and settings in bios setup menu, or unlocked vbios for overclock NVIDIA card, then you can post your request in this thread. Also, if you have a problem with fan pulsating/clicking on any modified bios then you can post your request in this thread. The flashing procedure include two steps:1. Flash main system bios.2. Flash EC firmware.M17x R4 - 'unlocked' BIOS versions.
